TWELVE MONTHS' HARD LABOUR

Pleading guilty to a charge of attempting to commit incest at Carterton on December 15, 1934, Leo Vernon Pahl, a butcher, of Masterton, was sentenced to 12 months' hard labour by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in the Supreme Court to-day. Charges of incest and attempted incest on April 13, 1935, were also preferred against Pahl, who pleaded not guilty. Without retiring, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on both counts.
