Disease and Diet "Hints on Healthy Living," by Dr Ulric Williams, of Wanganui (Wanganui Chronicle, 3s 6d) appears in a new and enlarged edition. The author deals with the cause of disease and the need for mental health as well as bodily fitness. The spiritual aspects of healing and the part played by fasting in disease are dealt with. Then he proceeds to the discussion of diet, and sets out rules of eating, suggestions for menus to make the right combinations of foods for the daily meals. In addition there is an enlarged list of recipes. Close on 100 pages are devoted to health recipes of all kinds prefaced with hints on preparation and cooking. At the end of the book are a summary of food classification and several pages of " Relevant Thoughts."

Economic In " The Printing Press Was Right" (Whitcombe and Tombs, Is 3d), C. Campbell makes an examination of certain proposals for monetary reform, on the premise that the mind of the propounder of the Social Credit theory became static after he had made "his wonderful discovery in dynamics." Mr Campbell puts forward his own adaptation of the Social Credit doctrine, which, while retaining the "national Dividend" will, he avers, ensure an economic order not open to the criticisms raised by anti-Douglasites. Rural Life The Countryman, edited and published by J. W. Robertson Scott at Idbury, in Oxfordshire, is a periodical that retains individuality and character. The current issue, lor January, contains some hundreds cf pages devoted to the discussion of rural and agricultural life in its various phases, and is very fully illustrated. In vigorous manner he discusses chosen pages of Nietzschean philosophy, always from a critical angle, and concludes with a tribute to Nietzsche as the greatest psychologist of all time, " a sublimely beautiful sou! whose like we shall probably not see again." Jubilee A comprehensive and fully illustrated record of the Coromandel Diamond Jubilee has been issued in the " Souvenir and Historical Record, 1876-1937" (W. D. Nicholas, Ltd., Paeroa, Is 6d). In this well-produced brochure is contained an interesting account of the history of Coromandel from the early days, and a .iust tribute to the district's progressive present. Making Sales In "A Salesmakar: An Aid to Successful Selling " (Angus and Robertson, 3s 6d) Norman W. Charge, from his own experience and observation, provides lucid advice to salesmen. Some of the chapters deal with "The Art of Selling," "The Salesman's Vocabulary," "Personality," "Psychology in Selling." Investment "Eastern Tin Dredging Companies" issued by W. K. Garnsey (117 Pitt street, Sydney) contains statistical information and other details of the activities of 36 principal tin dredging ventures operating in the East. It is a revision of a previous brochure issued three years ago. Book Catalogues In Catalogue No. 10 Messrs John Harkness, Ltd. (69 Great Queen street, W.C.2) list some 300 modern first and limited editions, providing an interesting indication of values in 1936. The 400th Catalogue from Messrs B. H. Blackwell. of Oxford lists some 2500 titles in second-hand books and " Remainders," which embrace most aspects of English literature.

Kipling's Autobiography When Mr Kipling died early last year he left among his papers the material for an autobiography. The Australian branch of Messrs Macmillan and Co. has received a radiogram from its head office stating that the autobiography will be published in London on February 16.
