JAPANESE SHIPPING

A SPECIAL SUBSIDY CHIEFLY FOR FREIGHTERS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) TOKIO, Feb. 4. Japanese shipping will receive a special subsidy of £900,000 a year from the Ministry of Communications as part of the effort to increase merchant tonnage to 6,000,000 in five years. It will be devoted chiefly to freighters. Leading business men are urging the Government to regulate the trade with South Africa and the Argentine, pointing out that, owing to the extensive wooi purchases becoming oae-sided, it should direct attention to South Africa and the Argentine, which are imposing restrictive measures against Japanese goods.
