OBITUARY

MR E. 0. SHAW Mr E. O. Shaw, whose death occurred recently at Waimate, was at one time manager of the Mickleburn Station, and during the heavy snowfall in the Mackenzie Country in 1895 he was missing for several days, but was traced and found above Burke's Pass. In 1919 he became licensee of the Burke's Pass Hotel, and subsequently became licensee of the Pleasant Point Hotel and of the Crown Hotel, Temuka, the Doncas ter, Washdyke, and the Royal. Waimate. He took an interest in the turf, being a member of the South Canterbury Jockey Club and the Timaru Trotting Club. He was a member of one of the contingent? that saw service in the South African War, and during the campaign he was seriously affected with enteric fever. In his younger days Mr Shaw was a noted athlete and was champion runner and walker of the Waimate district. During his lifetime he was a staunch supporter o:' football, at one time being presiden of the Temuka Football Club. It 1912 he married Miss N. Shine ane he leaves a' widow and grown-u; family. ~
