A real live " birdie ’’ was scored by a prominent member of the Westown Golf Club the other morning. It is a sad story (states the Wanganui Chronicle). At the short twelfth hole the golfer’s tee shot was off the straight and narrow. After the ball had travelled not more than 50 yards the player and his companion were amazed to see a thrush fly across the line of flight. There was a collision in mid-air, and bird and ball dropped to the ground midst a shower of feathers. The thrush was fatally injured.
