THE CORONATION

NEW ZEALAND’S CONTINGENT

INCLUSION OF NURSING SISTERS SUGGESTED (Per United Press association' DANNEVIRKE, Feb. 4. At the quarterly meeting of the Dannevirke Returned Soldiers’ Association the president (Mr J. Bradley) suggested that nursing sisters who served in the Great War should be included in the Dominion Coronation Contingent, and the meeting decided to make a recommendation to that effect (through the N.Z.R.S.A.) to the Government, the suggestion being that one from each centre should be sent. The inclusion of nursing sisters would, the meeting considered, be honouring a band of women who did so much for soldiers at the seat of war.

DOMINION NURSES APPLICATION CONDITIONS It has already been announced by the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) that nurses who served in the Great War are not to be forgotten when the New Zealand contingent leaves to attend the Coronation celebrations in May. It is intended that the Dominion should have two representatives of the nursing service—one from the North Island and one from the South Island. According to the announcement of the Minister, the conditions necessary in order that candidates may be considered for selection are as follows:

Applicants must (a) have been trained and registered as nurses in New Zealand; (b) have proceeded on active service overseas; (c) be physically fit; (d) provide the unifom prescribed, for which an outfit allowance of £8 per nurse will be allowed; (e) apply to the Director of Medical Services, General Headquarters, New Zealand Military Forces, Wellington, before February 16, giving the following information: (1) age, (2) height, (3) weight, (4) where trained, (5) date of registration as a nurse, (6) nursing experience prior to enlistment, (7) war record, (8) post-war record. A special committee is to be set up to consider applications. Ten nurses will be selected, and their names will be submitted to the Minister of Defence for approval. The final selection of the two nurses considered most deserving and suitable for inclusion in the New Zealand contingent will be carried out by ballot.
