DAVIS CUP CONTEST DRAW FOR EUROPEAN ZONE i LONDON, Feb. 2. The Davis Cup draw for the first round (European zone) is United States v. Japan; Mexico v. Australia; Belgium v. Hungary; Switzerland v. Ireland; South Africa v. Netherlands; China v. New Zealand. Byes in the second round: —Italy v. Monaco; Germany v. Austria; Sweden v. Greece; Jugoslavia v. Rumania; Poland v. Czechoslovakia; France v. Norway. AUSTRALIA'S PROSPECTS LONDON, Feb. 2. (Received Feb. 3, at 9 p.m.) Australia should win the Davis Cup, according to S. N. Doust. Writing in the Daily Mail, he expresses the opinion that Britain's chance of retaining the cup is slender. The Daily Telegraph's lawn tennis writer says Germany has the top half at her mercy. There is little doubt that the final of the American zone contest will be between Australia and America, but Japan must not be treated lightly.
