HINTS AND SUGGESTIONS

Paraffin seals on jelly glasses can be easily removed if a string is placed across the top of the bottle before the melted wax is poured on. When the jelly is required, simply pull the ends of the string, keeping the paraffin seals for the next boiling of jam. Before starting to draw the threads on linen for hemstitching, wet a small brush, rub it over a bar of soap until a lather is produced, scrub the threads of linen that you wish to draw, and they will pull out easily. To stamp a transfer for embroidery without the aid of a warm iron, place the transfer in position and, with a piece of cotton wool dipped in methylated spirit, dab the back of the transfer gently. A clear design will result. To remove indelible pencil marks quickly and easily, dip a cloth in a little clean methylated spirit from the chemist and carefully wipe over the marks. They will come out without smudging for streaking. Tasty savouries can be made by filling pastry cases with tinned baked beans, spaghetti, etc., and serving hot.
