CHESS CONGRESS

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES (Per United Press Association* AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. *" The New Zealand Chess Congress was brought to a conclusion this evening, when the prizes were presented to the winners in the championship and the premier reserve tourneys by the vice-president of the New Zealand Chess Association (Mr H; Oakley Browne). He congratulated the winners, making special reference to this year's champion, Mr H. R. Abbott, of Christchurch, and his wife, the New Zealand champion woman player, who tied for first place in the premier reserve tourney. Mr Browne said it was encouraging to see younger .players coming to the fore, and advised club members to encourage boys to take up the game.
