CONCLUSION OF CONTEST PLIMMERTON WINS TROPHY (Peb United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 7. By winning the sixth race in the Cornwell Cup series at Tauranga this afternoon, the Plimmerton crew (K. and M. Watson) secured their third victory, and thus won the trophy from Auckland. The fifth race was held this morning, and was won by Christchurch. Detailed results of the series are as follows:—Plimmerton 3 wins, Christchurch 2, Auckland 1. There was a steady westerly breeze for the sixth race, which started at 2.30 p.m. Plimmerton took the lead early in the" race, and held it until their spinnaker skied. Manaukau then sailed to the front, followed by Christchurch, Tauranga, Wellington, Plimmerton, Auckland, Whangarei., and Paremata. In the second round Christchurch gained the lead, with Tauranga in second place. On the last leg the Christchurch boat capsized when about a-quarter of a mile from the finish, and Plimmerton then secured the lead and won. The finishing times were: Plimmerton, 3hr 42min 35sec; Tauranga, 3hr 43min 55sec; Wellington, 3hr 46min 10 sec; Whangarei, 3hr 48min 45sec; Manukau, 3hr 49min 13sec; Auckland, 3hr 50min 20sec; Paremata, 3hr 51min 22sec. Lyttelton retired during the first round and Hamilton and Christchurch capsized.
