NEW STAMPS

ISSUE IN MARCH (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON. Dec. 16. New stamps of the new reign will probably be issued in March, certainly before the Coronation. On the day that the Duke of Windsor left England a rumour was spread abroad that King Edward VIII stamps would be withdrawn immediately and the old George V stamps substituted, until George VI issues were ready. The rumour, which was given a categorical denial, had caused a rush by philatelists to buy up Edward VIII stamps. The question of the Coronation issue is, however, likely to receive immediate consideration. Design suggestions have been debated, and it seems probable that the only change in procedure will be the substitution of the head of King George VI in the general scheme in place of that of Edward VIII. The Royal Mint had made progress with dies for Edward VIII coinage, and these are now useless. George V money will continue to be minted as required until dies bearing the head of George VI have been approved and prepared.
