POPE’S ILLNESS
HISTORY TRACED IN BULLETIN BOTH LEGS AFFECTED VATICAN CITY, Jan. 4. The first official bulletin traces the history, of the Pope’s illness, and says that both legs are affected by arterio sclerosis, but that there is reason for hope that there will be a gradual recovery, though the condition of his heart renders a certain amount of prudence advisable. VATICAN CITY, Jan. 5, (Received Jan. 6, at 0.30 a.m.)
The Pope had a fair night end slept at intervals. A kidney specialist, Dr Bonanome, has been called in for a consultation. The British United Press correspondent says the Pope had a troubled night, with intense pain in both legs and asthmatic difficulties. The Italian press gives prominence to the bulletin as denoting a disturbing situation owing to the weakness of the Pontiff’s heart.
