TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

Forbury Nominations Nominations for the Forbury Park meeting are due on January 12. Timaru Nominations Nominations for the Timaru Trotting Club’s summer meeting will close tomorrow at 9 p.m. A Well-bred Pacer The American horse Gallant Knight won his seventh race in New Zealand when he defeated a high-class field of sprinters in the Final Handicap at Addington. He is an exceptionally wellbred pacer and possesses all the attributes that go to make high-class racehorses. Sister to Wrackler Raclaim is a sister to Wrackler, which won a New Zealand Trotting Cup as a pacer, and a Dominion Handicap, which is the premier event in New Zealand for unhoppled trotters. Another Win Soon Cloudy Range accounted for his 14 opponents in the Mason Stakes Handicap in a manner that makes it plain that he will win another big handicap event before the season is much further advanced. He dashed past his field going down the back straight the last time to take the lead nearly three furlongs from him. From there on, he never appeared in danger of defeat. t Gamble Back to Form Gamble provided the crowd with a thrill by his spectacular finishing effort to win the Selwyn Handicap at Addington. He began better than ever he has done, but soon drifted. He was at the rearrof a bunched field when si?; furlongs had been covered, and at that stage of the contest he did not make an effort to reduce the leeway. Nearly three furlongs from home, Edwards placed him under a hard drive, and from there on the chestnut paced very fast. He was taken no the extreme outside of the track, and he mowed his opponents down as if they were so many second-rate performers. He was timed to cover his last two furlongs in 29sec. Summer Meeting at Addington The Metropolitan Trotting Club proposed to allot the principal stake (£1500) at its summer meeting to a fast mile and a-half race, but it has finally decided to make the event a 2.44 mile and a-quarter. Many enthusiasts will regret the change, because it had been hoped that the cracks would have been given a chance to establish a proper 12-furlongs record. Should Win Again Aide-de-Camp has improved a good deal and should win again before long. He is by Adioo Guy, the sire of Grand Mogul, and his efforts are those of a horse that will qualify for good-class races. The Australians Evicus and Emilius Way are on their way back to Adelaide*to compete in the Championships. Icevus will remain in New Zealand and will be trainedby J. Young. Not Going to Australia Roi I’Or and Southern Smile will not be taken to Australia for the Interdominion Championships, and it now looks as though the Dominion will not be represented at all. CAMBRIDGE ACCEPTANCES The Cambridge Trotting Club has received the following acceptances for its second summer meeting on Saturday:— SUMMER MAIDEN HANDICAP.
