Signed by Mr C. B. Tapley and 23 other owners or occupiers of properties in Dalrymple road, a petition before the Invercargill City Council at its last meeting requested that the name Dalrymple road be not altered, as proposed, to Dalrymple street. The use of the word " road," it was stated, frequently had an interesting historical basis and there did not appear to "beany adequate reason for the alteration of a name which had been established in citizens' minds by very long usf, and would, notwithstanding any altera iton, continue to be used' by- many.
