PERSONAL Members of the staff of the Oamaru branch of Dalgety and Co. gathered to do honour to Mr H. R. Willett on Friday evening, who was married the next day. The manager (Mr R. V. Irvine), in presenting Mr Willett with a handsome chiming clock on behalf of the members, referred to the long association the recipient had had with the Oamaru branch, and eulogised his many good qualities. He expressed every good wish for the future. Other members of the staff also conveyed congratulations and wished Mr Willett future prosperity. The recipient made a suitable acknowledgment of the gift and the good wishes. The many friends of Constable Edwin Thomas Berry, of Glenavy, will learn with deep regret of his death yesterday morning at the Waimate Hospital. Mr Berry, who was a South African veteran, was stationed at Glenavy for over 20 years, and during his long stay there he had earned the highest regard and esteem as a very courteous and obliging officer. The interment is to take place at Glenavy on Tuesday. New Club Hotel—Miss C. Munro (Kurow), Mr J. Gribble (Christchurch). Mrs J. Williamson. Mrs Lewisohen, Mr W. L. Dillon, Mr L. H Brook (Wellington), Mr D. J. Eyre (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Dreavers (Dunedin). GENERAL NEWS

Mr James Budge (Herbert) received head injuries on Saturday morning as a result of coming into collision with a car driven by Mr V. Thomas, of Ferry road, Woolston. It appears that Mr Budge was cycling along the main highway just north of Herbert when he came into collision with the other vehicle, which was proceeding south. He was knocked from his cycle, and attended by Dr Trotter, and was later conveyed to the Oamaru Hospital by the St. John Ambulance. Inquiries made yesterday afternoon elicited the information that the patient was making satisfactory progress. Despite numerous counter-attrac-tions, the weekly dance of the North Otago Scottish Society, held in the Scottish Hall on Saturday night, was attended by a large gathering, including many visitors to the town. The arrangements were carried out with their usual thoroughness, and all spent an enjoyable time in dancing, to music supplied by Rae's Gaiety Orchestra, Extras were played by Mrs A. Petrie, while the floor was controlled by Mr G. C. Craig, Supper was dispensed by the Ladies' Committee. Good progress has been made with the erection of the new band rotunda at Friendly Bay, and it is expected that the building will be completed towards the end of the week. In anticipation of this, the Friendly Bay Improvement Society and the three local bands will meet to make suitable arrangements for an appropriate opening ceremony, which will, in all probability, be held in the following week. The Oamaru Law Society, by advertisement, draws attention to the vtry substantial changes in the rignts and obligations of parties to mortgages, securities, leases and agreement for sale and purchase, and specially to the fact that applications must be made under the Act before January 31, 1937, and notices given before December 31, 1936. Specific instructions mu«t be given in the cases where solicitors are desired to act, and such instructions should be given without delay, as the Oamaru law offices close on December 23. Present entries for the Waiareka sale to-morrow include fat wethers, fat cows, and one extra good vealer. Further entries are invited. Urgent representations have been made to Mr A. W. Woodward (secretary of the North Otago Farmers' Union) by the United Wheatgrowers' Association, that it is considered most desirable that North Otago wheatgrowers should submit evidence as to costs of wheatgrowing to the Government commission which commences its sitting at the Oamaru Courthouse on Wednesday. Growers should communicate without delay with Mr Woodward. The chief postmaster (Oamaru) has advised that, commencing to-day, use will be made of the Gisborne-Napier air services for the transport of mail matter. The department is not issuing first-day covers, but for the first week of operation of the new service officers will comply with requests for hand-stamping of air mail letters. The chief postmaster suggests that this is a unique opportunity for obtaining a special cover, and to the first 1000 people who propose to arrange for letters to' be sent by the new service, and who will use a health stamp, an Oamaru Health Stamp Campaign envelope will be provided free.
