KAIAPOI HARBOUR
- . NO REFERENCE IN NAUTICAL ALMANAC CHAIRMAN OF BOARD INDIGNANT (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. Indignation at the omission of any reference to Port Kaiapoi from the Nautical Almanac was expressed in an interview by the chairman of the Waimakariri Harbour Board, Dr Maxwell Ramsay. " My attention has been drawn to the fact that Kaiapoi Harbour' is not mentioned in the current almanac," he said. "Kaiapoi is one of the oldest harbours in Canterbury, with a permanent staff and a fair seasonal trade. This omission and the extraordinary error in the depth of the Oamaru Harbour makes one wonder if the almanac is reliable. Kaiapoi Harbour is in better order now than it has been for years. The Waimakariri is establishing a new mouth, and in a few days should scour out an excellent channel. A stable mouth will eventually squash J;hat absurd Port Christchurch scheme."
