CENTENARY EXHIBITION
THE GOVERNMENT'S PROPOSALS GRATIFYING SUPPORT APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTORS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 3. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr D. G. Sullivan) announced to-day that the Government had approved of the appointment nf the following as Government repre sentatives on the board of directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhi bition Company, Ltd.:—Mr W ,1 Heenan. Under-secretary of the De partment of Internal Affairs; Mr F Johnson, assistant-secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, and Mr J Read, representing the trades and labour organisations The Minister stated that he was extremely pleased with the support that had been accorded to the proposals to hold a centennial exhibition, and the fact that £65,000 had been subscribed within a short time after the issue of the prospectus. The Government was contributing to the capital of the company by a loan free of interest of £25,000. and a subsidy of £ 1 for £ 1 of the capital subscribed up to £50,000 As the capita] that the company proposed to raise was £150,000, it would be seen that with the Government's contribution the sum of £225,000 would be available for the project "It now remains for the citizens ot Wellington and of the Dominion to get enthusiastically behind the project and bring it to successful fruition in 1940," the Minister said "1 am confident that the company directors who will be appointed, together with those appointed by the Government, will work in the closest co-operation, and by their energy and enthusiasm will leave no stone unturned to make the centennial exhibition a feature worthy of the occasion.
