UNEMPLOYED WORKERS
NATIONAL MOVEMENT The general meeting of the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers' Movement was held on Tuesday evening. Cr M. Silverstone (president) presided ,over a good attendance of members and their wives. The organising report showed that two members had joined and seven had been transferred to other unions on receiving full-time work. The monthly financial statement showed the branch to be in a very satisfactory position both in regard to finance and membership. It was agreed to send on £2 monthly in the meantime to assist the running of national headquarters in Wellington. The circular from the National Executive in regard to the increased sustenance and bonus for the unemployed was discussed. The resolution held over from last meeting was read, and. after various speakers had explained the whole matter in so far as the Government was concerned, the resolution was dropped. Complaints in regard to the attitude of some of the gangers working for the Reserves Department were tabled. Other complaints were left in the secretary's hands for investigation.
