■» EIGHTH IN NEW ZEALAND The eighth New Zealand Esperanto congress will take place under the auspices of the New. Zealand Esperanto Association at Christchurch during'the New Year holidays. Arrangements have been completed for the congress to commence on New Year's Eve and to extend over the two following days. The Mayor of Christchurch, Mr J. W. Beanland, will open the congress and also accord a civic welcome to the visitors. The assemblage will include, in addition to local enthusiasts, club representatives, International Association delegates, and individual visiting Esperantists. The official. programme will comprise a ceremonial opening, three business sessions, one of which will- bo conducted entirely in Esperanto, a lecturette session (in Esperanto), a concert and social, a sightseeing excursion, and other social functions. With headquarters in Wellington and under the patronage of Mr J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., chancellor of the University of New Zealand, the association concluded its eighth year's operations on November 30. It is the Dominion parent body of 11 clubs, etc, and possesses a substantial membership drawn from about 80 towns.
