SACRIFICE IN VAIN

Following a diphtheria epidemic at Wellingborough, Northants, a father gave a pint of his blood at Wellingborough Isolation Hospital recently, in an effort to save the life of his 10-year-old son. The sacrifice, made by Mr A. Birkly, was in vain. His son. Keith, died soon afterwards. Keith was one of four pupils at Westfield Boys' School, Wellingborough, who were rushed to hospital after the outbreak had spread to the school. The three other boys are recovering.
