The Suez canal runs nearly 100 miles through the desert. It is 143 feet wide and 33 feet deep. The speed limit is approximately six miles and a-hall per hour Mounted Constable JacK Schwerdt set up a world's record at the Royal Show, Melbourne, by winning the Sheaf Tossing Contest with a " toss " of 50 feet.
