PRAMS ON TRAMS
10 CHE EDITOR Sir,—The views of your correspondents as expressed on this topic display one fact clearly, that those who defend the unsympathetic attitude of the tramways conductors to the mothers of little children are either friends of the conductors or the conductors themselves I have, on occasion, helped a young mother to board a tram and have been shocked by the attitude of the men, so much so that I think it is a very opportune moment to point out that the average New Zealander seems to regard good manners as bad form. The mother of even one young child should be the object of the consideration of every man, tram conductor or prince; and it should not be necessary to point this out in the daily newspaper. Let us freshen the pages of our rude island story! While we are on the subject of the trams, I wish someone would put the conductors through a short course in ventilation and in the quiet closing of doors.—l am, etc., Observer.
