NOTES ON THE RACING

(Special to Daily Times; HAMILTON, Nov. 21

The second fancy. Tosh, finished attractively to win the Trial Stakes from the each-way favourite Rollicker. Besiege lost ground at the start, and Racela was first away from Te Huia, Racecall, Tosh, and Rollicker. After going a couple of furlongs Racecall and Rollicker assumed command, and they were the leaders into the straight from Te Huia, Bronzette, Tosh, and Susan. Halfway down the straight Rollicker was in charge, but Tosh soon took his measure, and went on to win by a length. Te Huia ran on solidly to be a length and a-half away third, and Young Paddon was fourth. The next to finish were Bronzette, Racecall, Pokerface, and Bold Blood. Tosh is a solid type, and was having only his second start. It appears as if he will not be lo.ig in winning again. Having his first race for some months, Tudor brought off a surprise in winning the Waimai Hurdles, and returned double figures on the straightout machine. Lucidus ran down the first fence, and when the field had settled down Indolent and English Night were the leaders from Lucidus, Racewhip, Kanapa, and Curlew. Passing the halfmile, English Night was in charge, and he led into the straight from Tudor, Lucidus. Indolent, Lap Up, and Merry Lap. Tudor was in front at the last fence, and in a good finish stayed on to win by a head from Merry Lap. llluminagh came home well to get third, a neck away, and Lap Up was a close fourth, ahead of Indolent, Kanapa, and Lucidus. It was a good race, and class stood to the winner, who jumped splendidly. Merry Lap and llluminagh ran up to their best form.

The well-supported Lornacre was responsible for a sound performance in winning the Hautapu Hack Handicap, for which High Test was the actual win favourite. Lornacre and Ellanui were quickly prominent, and when the field had settled down Winlona was in command from Mazzini, Ellanui, Philemup, High Test, and Lornacre. Winlona was still in front entering the straight from Ellanui and Mazzini. A furlong from the post Lornacre came through and scored by half a length from Gay Sister. Gay Streak also ran on well to be a neck away third, and High Test was fourth. Then followed Brown Lap. Student Prince, and Winlona. The placed horses all ran fine races, and High Test, who covered a little ground at the turn, also shaped well Student Prince made an excellent showing after being badly left, and it appeared that he would have been very difficult to beat if he had got away on even terms. The each-way favourite Jonathan missed a place in the Waikato Cup, which Dark Shadow won in good style. Tradesman and Dark Shadow were quickly in the lead and they made the running from King Rey, Grateful, Sinking Fund, Enge, Big Dook, and Jonathan. Dark Shadow was first into the straight from Tradesman, King Rey, Grateful, and Sinking Fund, and went on to win by half a length from King Rey. Sinking Fund was a similar distance away third, just defeating Mazir, who finished very fast from the rear. The next to finish were Grateful, Mungatoon. Big Dook, Scotland, and Wait and See Dark Shadow registered a pleasing performance, and King Rejdid well in his first /ace for some time. Grateful looked likely below the distance, but faded at the end. Jonathan had every chance, but could make no impression in the straight. It was with a fine finishing run that Light Comedy won the Claudelands High-weight Handicap. Light Comedv jumped out cleanly, but after going about a furlong gave way to Munsacre, Mustang. Musquil, Keith Lu, and Solaria. Mungacre carried on the running across the top, and led into the straight from Mustang. Musquil. Solaria, Miss Lu, Keith Lu, and Tuaheahe. A furlong from the post Mungacre, Musquil, and Solaria were fighting hard for supremacy A little further on Light Comedy (lashed up on the outside to win by a neck from Musquil. Tuaheahe finished on strongly to be another neck away third, and Mungacre was a close fourth. The next to finish were Con Fuoco. Miss Lu. and Mustang. Light Comedv is on the improve, and should be 'capable of winning a good handicap this season

The New Plymouth-trained Cute Melody won the Tamahere Stakes at a good price Feldberg and Cute Melody were soon prominent from Raceline White Foam, and Nuclei. Cute Melody drew out slightly after entering the straight and went on to win by three parts of a length from Elanage, who came home strongly on the outside. Trilliarcb battled on solidly to get third, a neck away, and White Foam was close up fourth, with Nuclei and Penzance next. Cute Melody is a longstriding filly, and displayed fine speed. Elanage did not begin too well, but put in some good work in the straight. Trilliarch also ran on at the end. Penzance was closer at the finish than at any other stage, and Nuclei was also doing good work pt the end. The each-way favourite. Star Artist, was a trifle slow to begin in the Cambridge Handicap, and was never prominent. Royal Dance was first to show out. but Symcony soon ran to the front from Galilee. Gay Sheila. Impasto. and Gay Seton. Crossing the top Symcony put a break on the field, and she entered the straight six lengths ahead

of Golden Sheila, Namakia, Gay Seton, Adalene, and Impasto. Near the distance Symcony began to tire, and Golden Sheila soon took her measure to win by a length and a-half from Impasto, who also ran on well. Adalene finished on to be a neck. away third and Symcony faded into fourth position. Then followed Royal Appellant, Wahine Reihi, Gay Seton, and Royal Dance. Golden Sheila registered a good performance, and is a fine filly who should do well as the season progresses. Royal Appellant was running on at the end, where he was closer than at any other stage. The light-weight, Cappy, brought off a surprise in the Taupiri Hack Handicap, paying over a score for a win. Torch ran to the front quickly from Cheval De Volee, Gloucester. Sweet Rose, and Little Artist. Torch was still in charge entering the straight from Cheval De Volee, Gloucester, Sweet Rose, and Little Artist. Once into the straight Gloucester assumed command, but he was immediately challenged by Cappy. Inside the distance Cappy had charge, and he withstood a determined challenge from Merial to win by a neck. Gay Egypt ran on strongly to be half a length away third, and Little Artist was fourth, followed by Torch, Rulette, and Calcutta. Cappy registered his best performance to date. Merial finished fast and appeared a shade unlucky. PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, Nov. 22.
