CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR PATIENTS AND PRISONERS

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—The annual appeal through your columns for the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society to provide “ Christmas cheer ” for patients, prisoners, and their dependents always meets with a generous response from city and country friends who are interested In the society’s work. Donations received go towards providing a treat and gifts for patients in Wakari Hospital, Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, the Mental Hospitals at Seacliff and Waitati, the prisoners in the gaol at Dunedin, and for the dependents of those who are serving sentences elsewhere. When we Include the mental cases, who are really in the majority, we have to cater for some 1300 people. The mention of Christmas stirs our generous feelings, and here is an opportunity to give expression to them in a manner which will give satisfaction. You can rest assured that no Christmas cheer will be received with greater appreciation, and every penny received will go to the patients and prisoners, etc., as stated.—l am, etc., Alex. Steven, Agent and Chaplain. Dunedin, November 19.
