ro ’ THE EDITOR Sir. —Some illuminating information is to be gleaned from the evidence in a recent action in the Supi'eme Court. It was testified that a quart barrel of whisky (costing about 10s 6d) produced 32 nips (bowser system) at 9d . each, equal to 245. Ye gods! And what of the beer “ handles ” composed of extra thick glass with a superextra foundation retailed at 6d? Measure contents and get into figures, and methinks you will desert the Lambs’ Brigade. It is surprising that our “ Guardian Angel ” Government does not protect its proteges in this matter and legislate so that for their expenditure they will receive fair value. — I am. etc.. M. C.
