Vice-Regal The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, paid his first official visit to Ashburton yesterday, and was accorded a civic welcome on behalf of the borough and county. He inspected the school children assembled in the Domain, visited the hospital, the Turangi Old Men’s Home, and the Soldiers’ Club, and was entertained at luncheon by local bodies. He then went to Longbeach as the guest of Mr J. H. Grigg. He will visit Timaru to-day. Dr D. G. M’Millan, M.P., returned from Wellington yesterday afternoon.
