Reports ol meetings ot branches are requested but they should be furnished promptly for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised. Mrs Third was in the chair .for the monthly meeting of the Kia Ora branch of the W.D.F.U. The motto was, “Money may not buy happiness, but with it you may be unhappy in comfort.” and the roll call was, “The furthest I have ever travelled, and the place I like best.” Best wishes were extended to Mrs Hugh Sumpter and Miss Miriam Kennedy, two members who had left the district Mrs Durward gave a short account of the annual conference held at Wellington Competitions held resulted as follows: Spring bloom—Mrs Simpson 1, Mrs Kirton and Miss W Telfer (equal) 2. Mrs M'Clea 3; lettuce—Mrs Simpson 1,, Mrs Dalziel 2. Miss I Sinclair 3; knitted sock—Mrs Simpson 1, Mrs Kirton 2, Mrs Third 3. The hostesses were Mrs Simpson and Miss D. Kirton. v ■{• The roll call at the monthly meeting of the Ngapara branch was “ Washing day hints.” It was decided that each member give two small hand towels to be distributed to the children at the school. A display of modern and old-time fancy work, some of which was over 60 years old, proved interesting. Competitions held resulted as follows: —Spring bloom, Mrs J M'Culloch 1 Mrs A. Eckhold 2; pastry. Mrs Butt 1. The hostesses were Mes-. dames S. Sutherland and E, Eckhold. * * * The president (Miss MacPherson) was in the chair at the monthly meeting of the Clinton branch A “ bring
and buy ” afternoon was held, and was a success. The forthcoming birthday of the branch was discussed. The Clyde branch met on Friday. In the absence of the president Mrs Hanning (vice-president) took the chair. Mrs Aitken gave a humorous reading, and a competition was won by Mrs Cotter. Hostesses were Mesdames Lindsay, M’Elroy. Robertson and Stevens. The fifth birthday party of the Ratanui branch was held on October 9. The first part of the evening was spent in playing euchre. Miss Gray (Otekura) was the winner of the ladies’ prize, and Mr R. M’Taggart (Ratanui) the gentlemen’s. Mrs MTaggart (president) extended a welcome to the visitors from Owaka, Tahatika, Owaka Valley, and Glenomaru. The cake, which was made by Mrs M’Taggart. was cut by one of the visitors. A competition, “Guess combined weight of president and secretary.” was won by Mrs Williamson and Mr Nind. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing.
