MOTOR CYCLIST'S DEATH
COLLISION WITH MOTOR LORRY

AUCKLAND, Oct. 15.
Thrown 12 feet when his motor cycle was involved in a collision with a motor lorry on the Great South road four miles south of Mercer to-night, James Shears, aged 66, married, of Ponsonby, suffered fatal injuries. The accident occurred on a short stretch of road between two bends. Shears was returning to Auckland from Paeroa and came into collision with the motor lorry which was travelling in the opposite direction. The rider was thrown heavily. He suffered head injuries and his right leg was broken in two places. Death occurred shortly afterwards. FATAL FALL DOWN STAIRS 'Per United Press Association » AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. After returning to his boarding house in Vincent street early last evening, John Waldron Tong, aged 34, of Thames, a son of Mr George Tong, secretary of the Thames Hospital Board, fell downstairs, and was fatally injured. A doctor who was called found that death had occurred, his skull having been fractured. A SUDDEN COLLAPSE Thomas Wintrup, a single man. aged 62 years, residing at Green Island, collapsed suddenly in Kaikorai Valley road yesterday and was taken to the Hospital by the ambulance. He was admitted at 12.30 p.m. A CYCLIST INJURED When cycling down York place yesterday, Edward Furness, aged 11 years, residing at 3 Swan street, suffered head injuries through falling from his bicycle. He was admitted to the Hospital at 12.15 p.m.
