UNEMPLOYED WORKERS' MOVEMENT

The genera] meeting of the Dunedm Central branch of the National Unemployed Workers' Movement was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening. Cr M. Silverstone (president* presided over a good attendance of members. The monthly financial statement was submitted by the secretary, showing the branch to be in a sound position in regard to finance and membership. The organising report stated that 18 new members had joined up, 11 transferred to full-time worksince last meeting, and the membership was still over the 1000 mark. A few complaints were tabled and left in tht> secretary's hands for investigation. Mr C. Pollock was elected to the executive. The full executive of the branch, with the executives of the O.L.R.C. and the South Dunedin Association, is to meet the local members of Parliament at the Trades Hall on Sunday next, as requested. The following resolutions were carried unanimously:—(l) "That we ask the National Executive to rally national support for the following request: That the amount of earnings permissible, other than relief pay, be the difference between relief pay and the publicworks basic weekly wa»e." (2) " That the Dunedin branch of the National Unemployed Workers' Movement expresses its wholehearted support for their fellow-workers in Spain in their gallant fight to uphold their Government against the reactionary menace of Fascism, and forwards a donation of £5 to assist them in their heroic struggle in defending with their lives the freedom and democracy represented by their Government."

The secretary was instructed to interview the certifying officer with a view to getting the reporting time of intermittent workers changed, and also the chairman of the Reserves Committee regarding various matters tabled.
