TAXI SERVICES
XO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Your remarks published to-day (Tuesday), under the above heading, are of interest to occasional users of taxis. It is to be noted that one, owner thinks that fares should be reduaed. It seems a reduction would produce larger takings for established lines with "a connection." The fares in Dunedin are too high by comparison with those charged in Wellington—a city very similar in configuration to our city. In Wellington one can travel one mile for Is plus 6d, I think, for the next half-mile. In Dunedin one and a-half miles in some directions cost 2s 6d. If the object of the committee now sitting is to bring about approximate co-ordination all over New Zealand, then our fares should be reduced. —I am,- etc., Occasional User.
