Mr L. Jacks, headmaster of one of the English schools, said recently in an address at a prize-giving demonstration: "One of the diseases from which we suffer to-day is vulgarity, which is largely ignorance. It is seen in our advertisements, in the destruction f the countryside, in urban developments, and petrol stations, in hideous homes we put up, in our entertainments and in mucli of our social amusements in each year. A vulgar people cannot be a great people. The antidote is to be found in the schools, where the sense of true values is taught. The more cultural interest is developed in school the better the chances of de-vulgarising modern life."
