HAIR BEAUTY

Let us suppose that your hair is inclined to have a good deal of natural oil. Then a spirit tonic is what it needs, for, of course, quite different treatments are needed for dry and oily scalps. This tonic and a course of proper brushing and massage will soon put your hair in perfect condition for all the spring festivities. . Lots of girls are afraid to brush their hiar lest they disturb their permanent wave (says a beauty specialist). This is a great mistake. Brushing cannot flatten the wave, and if you are meditating another wave, it will make your hair wave twice as well and give you crisper, curlier ends. As we all know, there is nothing like brush friction for making the hair beautiful and glossy and helping it to maintain its richness of colour. Well, first, for an oily scalp, the spirit tonic: Shake in a bottle equal parts ofeau de cologne, rectified spirit and distilled water. This lotion is particularly good for busy girls, for its use does not necessitate a shampoo and setting as well. A . Shake out the hair well and friction it for a few minutes with the finger tips. Then pour into a saucer a little of the tonic lotion, and, with a small piece of cottonwool, rub the scalp all over, parting the hair in a dozen places so as to get it well into the roots without wetting the hair. You will find this mixture delightfully stimulating and refreshing to use. It removes all dust and grease. Also it dries quickly and it is when the scalp is quite dry that the hair should be brushed. ■ . . Do not brush the hair flat against the head, but drop the head forward so that half is brushed away from it. This serves two purposes. It brings the blood to the roots and stimulates the growth wonderfully. Another good way to make the hair grow is to separate it into small strands and pull it gently. . . Now for women whose hair, is dry ahd inclined to be chippy looking and split at the ends. This type of hair must be given a little nourishing oil now and then, even if it does mean more frequent washing. But, as a matter of fact, a little oil properly applied need not get over the hair nor make it greasy or clung looking. Get your chemist to make up the old-fashioned mixture of, bay rum and cantharides with just eight drops of oil of rosemary. There is nothing better than this for a dry scalp with splitting hair. .. It is a good plan when there is even this amount of oil in the lotion to give the hair all its massage and brushing before putting it on. Done in that way it cannot possibly make the hair itself too greasy, but it will soon give you a fresh, healthy scalp, vigorous hair roots, and glossy hair which will be twice as easy to arrange and keep Be very careful to banish dandruff at its first appearance. It becomes much harder to cure when it has been present even a little while, and nothing .will so surely spoil all hair beauty as this very common complaint. A regular weekly hot oil hair bath followed by a thorough shampoo with a medicated tar soap is a wonderfully effective treatment for dandruff. Another good way of getting rid of it is to rub into the scalp before going to bed a mixture of zinc and sulphur ointments, wrap the head in a towel for the night, and wash it thoroughly in the morning. „..,,„„ - Look for a rundown condition o£ your nerves when dandruff is present, and set about remedying it at once.
