EASTERN SOUTHLAND Gore Baths The Baths Committee of the Gore Borough Council submitted the following report to Monday night's meeting: "After considering the position, it was decided to recommend that the present scheme be dropped and that a conference be arranged with the citizens' representatives on the Swimming Club for the purpose of considering the matter of the domain behind the High School, or the one next to the pumping station, as suitable sites. If they consider either of these sites suitable, that they submit complete plans and estimates and be requested to pay for the cost of any further loan proposals to be placed before the ratepayers." The Mayor stated that a report had been received from the engineer that the site near the High School was not suitable, as water could not be led in from the river without a. pumping plant. . it The recommendation of the committee was adopted. OMAKAU Miniature Rifle Club Some 24 members attended the last meeting of the Omakau Rifle Club. Mr J. Stevenson was the winner of the gold button and Mr D. Maclean won the silver button. WAIWERA Benedicts' Ball The benedicts' ball was held in the Public Hall last Friday night. There was a large attendance, and the function proved most enjoyable. The M.C.'s were Messrs F. Aitken, A. Broad, and J. Harris. Mr L. Shepherd made an efficient secretary, and along with the other members of the committee can take credit for conducting the function so well. Golf Club The different competitions have oeen completed with the following results:— Ladies' championship, Miss Kinaston; Ladies' B Grade Handicap, Mrs L. J. Edwards; Men's Medal Handicap, Mr E. Chandler; Men's Championship, Mr S. Chandler. The last event was an excellent match, S. Chandler beating W. Watts at the thirty-seventh hole. The various trophies were presented by the president (Mr E. B. Boyd). Rifle Shooting The third test match between Taumata and Waiwera was fired on Monday night.
