1200 MILES ON FOOT (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, July 25. Sixty-two-year-old Mr Edgar Day, an Australian, who has resided in New Zealand for the past 35 years, has acquired for himself a spate of publicity during a wall:--* tour round England and Scotland. .When he arrived at the Edinburgh City Chambers this Week he was [ regarded as a rather unusual visitor." Mr Day has been consumed with a desire to " see Britain," and at 62 years of age he is fulfilling his ambition, covering 1200 miles of the country, for the most part on foot. Mr Day is not the type of man to beg a favour, but now and again a friendb motorist has given him a lift on his way. However, his is brSadly a walking tour. Mr Day takes about with him a wellstored mind and a notebook which contains a full itinerary of his journeymgs. He began his trek in .London in May, his presence in the metropolis being attested to by the signatures of the Lord Mayor of London -md the High Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir Jrmes Parr. From London Mr Day arrived at Land's End, and he then started on to John o'. Groats. On his way he introduced himself various heads of municipalities and his book contains an interesting collection of municipal and civic seals, including those of Birmingham, Glasgow and Inverness. THE SIMPLE LIFE His wants when he is afoot are very simple, his diet consisting chiefly of milk and biscuits. On this fare he can overtake a good many miles in a day, and he goes cheerily along dressed in khaki shirt, flannel trousers, stout boots, ' and a light mackintosh. Mr Day ends his long trek in August, when he sails from London for Auckland.
