MODIFICATIONS ANNOUNCED SUNDAY WORK AND HOLIDAYS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 19. Modifications of the Factories Amendment Act, 1936, made by Order-in-Council on August 12 and notified in a Gazette dated August 13, affect Sunday and holiday employment in four industries, namely, coal gasworks, dairy factories (including creameries), electric power generating and transforming factories (in country districts where only one worker is employed), and in morning daily newspaper factories. In the case of gasworks, dairy factories and power stations it is now provided that workers employed on holidays or Sundays shall be paid in addition to their ordinary rate of pay at not less than one-half of their ordinary rate of pay for time worked on such holidays or Sundays. It is provided that in the case of morning daily newspapers the requirements of sections 14 and 15 of the Act shall be modified as follows: So far as employment of night workers is concerned the term holiday shall mean the period from noon on the day preceding the holiday until noon on the day of the holiday, and the term Sunday shall mean the period from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday.
