OBITUARY
CAPTAIN HARRY PEARSON (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, August 17. (Received August 18, at 5.5 p.m.) . The death is announced of Captain Harry Pearson, who was navigating officer of the Calliope in the Apia hurricane in 1889, MR GEORGE HUNT The death occurred on Sunday last of Mr George Hunt, a pioneer settler of the Catlins district, Mr Hunt commenced his farming career on a property near Waikouaiti, but later acquired a farm in South Otago, the railway station. Hunt’s road, on the Catlins line, being named after him. Mr Hunt had a family of 16 children. MR ROBERT W. CAMPBELL The deatli has occurred at Wellington. after a long illness, of Mr Robert William Campbell, aged 65, the printer of the Evening Post, Wellington The deceased, who was for some years a member of the composing staff of the Evening Star, was well known in Dunedin, being an enthusiastic active member of the Caledonian Bowling Club. He served his apprenticeship to the printing trade on the Herald and the Globe, two early Dunedin newspapers, worked on an Invercargill paper for some time, returned to Dunedin to join the Star, and later went to Christchurch. From Christchurch he went to Wellington to become the printer of the Evening Post. He leaves a widow and a family of three sons and one daughter. MR F. H. SMITH A Press Association telegram from Timaru records the death of Mr Francis Henry Smith, of “Waratah,” Albury. a member of the House of Representatives from 1911 to 1914. He was in his sixty-ninth year.
