WORLD’S ONE HOPE

THE BROTHERHOOD OF ISRAEL A RACE OF DIVINE CHOICE DR W. P. QOARD EXPLAINS Admitting that a subject on which he has delivered 500 separate and distinct lectures to students at the British-Israel College at Harrow (England) without covering everything, could not be done full justice in a couple of public lectures, Dr W P. Goard last night endeavoured to outline the bases of British-Israel conviction to a crowded house in Burns Hall. The speaker, no doubt through pressure of time, was more dogmatic than explanatory, and relied on emphasis more than particular reason to convince his audience that the future of the world, its peace, its regeneration and its entire civilisation depend upon the eventual acceptance by the CeltoSaxon world of the principles and aims of the British-Israel movement. The speaker greeted his audience as fellow citizens of “ the great Commonwealth of Israel.” He regarded it as a great privilege to bo able to tell all people, slum-dweller and royalty alike, the wonderful story of their inheritance. Each year he visited two or three countries of the great family, and he was able, therefore, to bring them greetings from other nations—from Anglo-Saxon, American, from Canada, from South Africa, from Sweden, from Norway, from Denmark, in fact from the whole 16 national branches of the Christian brotherhood of the world, which organisation was even now proposing to change its name to the Brotherhood of Israel. Dr Goard said that at the outset he must direct attention to the difference between Israel and Judah. There was a great division between them which dated back to 1000 years before Christ. Who then were Israel? The Celto-Saxon people, he said, and it was of Israel he wished to speak. To confuse the two was like mixing metaphor’s. Turning to a discussion of the British Empire, the speaker said it had many populations and languages. Many liked to regard them all as equal, but they all knew that one race—the great Celto-Saxon racestood out head and shoulders above all the rest. Some might question such a claim, but he would not waste time elaborating it. It was sufficient to say that wherever an Englishman went, people could point the finger and say, there goes an Englishman. The skin-clad painted savages wandering through the forests of Britain, the great nameless race that did not know its own parentage, was become the greatest of all races, Why? Because that race was Israel. Hundreds of years before Christ 40 university centres were to be found in Britain, offering a 20-year curriculum to Britons and foreigners as well. Yet, despite such historical data, their children were taught that Britons did not know their origins. Surely it was time the veil was lifted, and he thought it a shame that it was not being done in Dunedin, the Athens of the south. The claims the British-Israel movement made were not without historical basis. The great libraries and histories of the world proved that Britain was what the Bible called Babylon the Great. And this proof was available to all scholars who cared to take time to investigate. Original documents, tablets, parchments and scrip were the original authorities which enabled them to trace British origin right back to its unmistakable beginnings.

British-Israel, he said, had come to the knowledge and conviction that Britain was the Israel of God. The power of the sword had ruled in Babylon, Persia, Rome and Greece until finally it exploded, and the power of religion became the great authority in the world. World history showed that wherever one looked, and for 2500 years the world went on under the alternating influences of the sword and religion only to crash in 1914 in a terrible holocaust. But at the back of it all there was one family which God selected to be a blessing to all the peoples of the earth. He had chosen the House of Israel to be the great world bulwark which would lead and save the world. Of course, some laughed at the idea, but so did Sarah when God told her that at 90 years of age she would bear a child to her 100-year-old husband Abraham. But the son was born, because Abraham had faith that it would. iAnd in the same way, in these latter days, the birth of a great nation, the chosen people of God, would came to encourage the faithful and confound the sceptical. God established His covenant in Isaac, and in so doing gave the British the charter of their race. It was to be found in the seventeenth chapter of Genesis, which was an infinitely greater document than Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights or any of the great corner stones of British liberty/

And then let them turn to the twenty-second chapter of Genesis and read of the Divine command that Abraham should offer Isaac as a burnt offering to God, and of Abraham’s unflinching response to that order. On that day and in that son was vested every succeeding generation of the Celto-Saxon race, represented to-day by 160,000,000 souls Then there was Jacob wrestling at Peniel with God, and prevailing. After the surrender of his opponent he was blessed, and he was no longer called Jacob, but Israel. Here was the development of the mentality and spirituality of a nation called, redeemed, and chosen by God to be the leaders and saviours of the world, the agents of that regeneration and reconstruction which was the destiny mapped out for the world by God. The speaker then turned to the beginning of British history. The word British was made up of Hebrew words which meant a covenant among men. British history began at the great pageant at Sinai about 1500 8.C., and it had never ceased right down through the years. A single family was slowly developed through 4000 years into the British race, the kingdom of God on earth. God wanted a kingdom to rule over so he made one for Himself and he chose Britain, or rather Israel, which He “ bore on eagle’s wings and brought to Himself.” God said, “Ye shall be unto Me a kingdom,” and choosing Israel - He made it His kingdom, “ Israel shall remain a nation be fore Me for ever,” He told Jeremiah, and so Israel had remained and would until “He shall descend again to earth.” There they had the nation and the king. All they needed was the Constitution, which was found in Exodus, in the Ten Commandments which were designed to cover, direct and control all conduct. The Church had these

laws, but they must remember that the Church was only an ecclesia. It was the body of Christ, but it was not the King. God alone could be that. Was it any wonder that the nation, the great family of Israel, had become the greatest power and influence in the world? Let them look at the unity of the nation, strategically placed by God to control the world, Britain, the United States. Canada, Newfoundland, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa, with the mother countries, Holland. Sweden, Norway and Denmark—all of them held the inheritance God had committed to their charge. They were one family, one people, the subjects of one King, charged with the uplifting of humanity, the regeneration of the nations and the preparation of the world for the coming of Christ. This was not propaganda, not human reasoning, but a Divine dispensation which must be fulfilled no matter what else happened. The emergence of Britain as the new Israel was inevitable and except in the success of this great movement the future had not one single ray of light or hope to offer the world.
