SCOUT NOTES.

A special meeting of the Headquarters Committee was held last Thursday, Sir Percy Sargood presiding. It was announced that a fairly large contingent of Scouts from Invercargill would attend the Hobbies Exhibition, and invitations are also being extended to parties from Lawrence and Oamaru. Offers to billet the visiting Scouts would be welcomed. A party of 30 Scouts and officers will visit the Lawrence Troop on Friday. TROOP REPORTS Ist Dunedin, Roslyn, Troop mustered on Friday last. Work and games filled in the evening. P.L. Laing has passed for his royal life-saving medallion, ana was presented with his swimmers’ and rescuers’ badges. Six Scouts spent some time with G.S.M. Ashby on their second class tests. 2nd Dunedin, Mornington, Troop had 22 Scouts on parade. After games Commissioner Wing and D.S.M. Black were welcomed with the Dominion haka. D.S.M. Black inspected the troop and presented badges. P.L. Wing was presented with his King’s Scout badge and his red and white cords. 3rd Dunedin, Ravensbourne, Troop had a muster of three full patrols. Inspection showed, the Seagulls and Bellbirds with equal points The troop despatched for the purpose of locating a missing Scout, in which only a few succeeded. Four visitors included two Dunedin Scouters, who gave valuable assistance Nearly every Scout has promised to enter at least one class at the Hobbi''i Exhibition. 4th North Dunedin Troop paraded on Thursday. Swanson and two other P.L.’s took oyer the officers’ places, ‘lr officers acting as P.L.’s. This gave the Scouters a chance to test the patrols, and the P.L.’s a chance to see how a troop meeting should be done. 9th Dunedin, Mohicans, Troop _ was examined last Friday by Commissioner Wing and D.S.M.’s MTndoe and Black for the Metropolitan Competition. The troop acquitted itself well. Commissioner 'Wing and D.S.M. MTndoe congratulated it. „ „ , , 13th Dunedin, N.E. Valley, Troop had a full parade, and inspection showed good results. Mr C iper spoke of the second Scout law, “A Scout Is Loyal, an example being drawn on the evening’s showing at inspection. A. Maxwell, J. Falconer, and R. Pearce were invested as Scouts. 27th Dunedin, Kensington.—lmpromptu speeches took the place of the ordinary Scout work at last week s meeting. Points were allotted for the speeches, and these counted for the inter-patrol competition, and Gordon Baird, who was placed first, gave a very interesting talk on “Why the Government Should Supply Free I c< - Cream to School Children! ” Each of the patrol leaders gave a short talk on his patrol bird, after which each of the Scouters and visitors was called on to speak on a subject selected by the troop. Bos’un Buchanan discussed Sea Scouting, while Totara was called on to discuss the proposal of admitting girls into Scout troops. The interpatrol competition has been won by the Bellbirds for the first time, and they are now determined to hold the coveted staff for the rest of the year. WOLF CUB PACKS Ist Dunedin, Roslyn, “ Panther ” pack had 24 little wolves running in the jungle. In the first star tests, taken by Baloo, Alf. Hepplewaite and Doug. Davies passed. Doug. Muirhead was welcomed to the pack. “Leopard” Pack had 22 Wolf Cubs around the council rock. Graeme Sinclair and John M’Vean passed flags, and Des. Everest skipping. Visitors during the afternoon were Mrs Wales and Mrs Salmond, At the 4th, North Dunedin, Pack meeting 16 Little Wolves answered Akela’s call. Second Ron Scannell took the grand howl for the last time, as he is leaving shortly for England. 6th Dunedin, Mosgiel. Pack had 24 Wolf Cubs present. Bill M’Leod received his tenderpad badge. The parade of 13th Dunedin. NorthEast Valley, Pack started with inspection by Akela and Baloo, followed by knot work. lan Pairman was invested with his tenderpad. A large muster of Little Wolves yelled a welcome to Akela to the Opoho Pack, and, after inspection S.M. Lomas spoke on “ How to Prepare Exhibits for the Hobbies.” Russell Gregory passed his tenderpad. FIELD DAT Several of the Wolf Cub packs of the north district met on Saturday afternoon, and proceeded to Ross Creek reservoir, where an outside meeting was held. It is hoped to hold several more of these outings during the holidays.
