Weston, chairman of the Egmont National Park Board, at the quarterly meeting of the board. “Where will the country be in 500 years’ time if we allow the native birds to be exterminated? " ho asked. “ What imported birds would take the place of the pigeon, wild duck, tui, and others? It is the native birds that propagate many of the seeds of our forest trees. I should like also to warn other districts in New Zealand of the damage done by goats,” Mr Weston continued. “Mount Egmont is a striking example of the erosion that is going on, much of it directly traceable to the goat.”
