MESSRS J. R. M'KENZIE'S STAFF BALL
The annual staff ball of Messrs J. R. M'Kenzie, Ltd., held in the Tudor Hall on Wednesday evening, was typically successful. The arrangements for the ball were in the hands of an energetic and capable Social Committee, consisting of Mr F. Hince, chairman. Mrs D. Jarvis, secretary, who wore black silk velvet, Misses J. M'Mullan. treasurer, wearing floral crepe de chine; M. Griit'en, gold satin; 1. Barron, pink georgette; M. Ellis, peach taffeta and net; and M. Davie, gold lame and brown; and Mr W. Cameron, who was an efficient M.C. How thoroughly they had worked together was made evident by the briliant success which resulted, and the congenial atmosphere of the Tudor Hall was the background for an event that will long be remembered. A special welcome was extended to several members of the Manawatu Rugby football team, who were present as guests of the evening—Messrs J. B. Thurston, F. L. Irvine, H. Waugh, J. Finlay, J Nichol, C. Fletcher and H. Crawford.
Several special numbers were included in the programme. The appearance of Miss Helen Abraham and Mr Kevin Dun in one of their exhibitions of dancing was a fcatu e of great interest. Masters Billie Hewitt and Jim Orr provided a clever interlude of tap dancing that well deserved the applause with which it was received, and Miss Lorna Hewitt was responsible for a tap dance that won hearty appreciation A lucky spot dance was won by Miss Taylor and Mr L, Holley, and a statue one-step, a novelty that caused considerable amusement, proved a successful venture for Miss Crosby and Mr Rutherford. Miss M'Curdy and Mr L. Secque won a Monte Carlo waltz. Miss Woolsey was the holder of the lucky programme number. Among those present were:--Mes-dames F.
