A FORCED LANDING

DAMAGE TO AEROPLANE PILOT ESCAPES INJURY (Per United Press Association) ASHBURTON, August 12. A broken landing wheel, a smashed propeller and minor damage to the fabric of one wing resulted when an aeroplane belonging to the anterbury Aero Club, piloted by Mr J. O’Connor, of Ashburton, was forced down at Staveley on Sunday. The engine stopped 1100 feet above the ground, and the airman was forced to land downhill. The plane struck a fence and somersaulted into an adjoining paddock. Subsequently water was found in the carburettor. The pilot was uninjured.
