RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS

VICTORIA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE TWO STUDENTS NOMINATED (Pek United Press Association) ■ WELLINGTON, August 11. The Victoria University College’s nominees for the 1937 New Zealand Rhodes Scholarships are H. L. Baker, 8.A., and G. E. Wilson, M.A. The nominations were made to-day by the College Professorial Board. MR H. L BAKER (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, August 11. Mr Baker was born on Septembei 7, 1915, and commenced his educa tion at the Tahunga primary school where, in 1927, he took a junior national scholarship. He then went to the Gisborne High School, and in 1931 he passed the university entrance examination and took a junior scholarship in 1932. He entered Victoria University College in 1933, and in that year passed the first division of the examination for the degree of Bachelor of Laws and a section of the degree of Bachelor of Arts. In 1935 he completed his B.A. degree and was awarded a University of New Zealand senior scholarship in French and took third place for New Zealand in Latin. This year he was awarded the Robert Stout scholarship. He has kept first class terms in every subject he has taken.
