MEMBERSHIP OF THE HOUSE
BASIS OF REPRESENTATION CLAIMS OF SOUTH ISLAND (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 11. The, Government is at present giving consideration to the matter of parliamentary representation, said the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) in the House of Representatives to-day. The statement was made in reply to a question by Mr T. D. Burnett (Opposition, Temuka).
Mr Burnett said that as a result of the recent census the South Island would again lose from one to two seats to the North Island, and he asked the Prime Minister to guarantee a minimum representation of 30 members to the South, allotting extra representation to the North Island, but not at the expense of the South Island. /
