An interesting exhibit at the exposition of antiques and curios arranged by Mrs S. R. Warcing and held in the Te Awamutu Parish Hall last week was a picture recovered from the ruins left by the Tarawera eruption in 1886. The picture, which had been found in the mission house at To Mu, is not broken in any way, although it is still spattered with mud from the eruption. The subject of the portrait was the wife of the Rev. S. M. Spencer, a missionary who arrived in New Zealand in 1842 a few days after Bishop Sclwyn.
