WIMBLEDON TOURNAMENT CRITICISM OF SEEDINGS LONDON, June ,17. “ It does not read sense,” is how Australian quarters sum up Crawford’s seed-i ing in the Wimbledon Singles. They emphasise that his American form showed that he was ’obvioudly superior to Allison. The Australians are also mystified to find Quist and Allison ranked above Budge. Critics, analysing the draw, foresee Perry pud von Cramm in the final, and express the opinion that the semi-finalists will he Perry, Budge, Austin and von Cramm.
Mr Wallis Myers, writing in the Daily Telegraph, says that in the men’s list for Wimbledon the “ seedsmen ” tactfully reduced heartburning by nominating four national champions for the first four places. A student of world form might question Quiet’s ability to defeat Budge, but champions remain champions until they lose their titles.
