Vice-Regal. An invitation hag been extended by the Otago Hospital Board to the Gover-nor-Genera) (Viscount Galway) to lay the foundation stone at the Queen Mary Maternity Hospital on Wednesday, July 29.
Ministerial. The Postmaster-general (Mr F. Jones), who arrived from the north on Wednesday evening, spent a busy day in Dunedin yesterday. He received several deputations, but they were all of a private nature. Mr Jones will leave for Christchurch on Sunday evening. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. Lee Martin) arrived in Dunedin from the north by the afternoon express yesterday. He will officially open the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Winter Show this afternoon, and hoped to return to Wellington on Mopdav. The Minister, who is accompanied by his private secretary (Mr W. R. King), is staying at the Grand Hotel.
Mr J. Higgins, of Christchurch, will arrive at Dunedin to-morrow.
Mr George F. Rox arrived in Dunedin yesterday to make arrangements for the forthcoming Long Tack Sam season. Mr A. B. Lane, of Wellington, manager of the United Press Association, i s at present on a business visit to Dunedin, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr J. F. Devlin, world’s champion badminton player, arrived at Dunedin yesterday afternoon. He was accompanied by Messrs M. Wilson and R. Hull, of Auckland (Now Zealand Doubles champions), and Mr J. Neal, of Wellington (Ncrv Zealand Singles champion). Mr N. T. Ryan, lute of Matakanui, will arrive in Dunedin to-morrow to attend the reunion of the Otago limbless soldiers to be held at the Savoy on Monday evening.
A Gazette issued last night provides (says 11 Press Association telegram from Wellington) that the new Conciliation Commissioner, Mr M. J. Reardon, is assigned the following industrial districts: —Northern Taranaki, Wellington, and the South Island. The Union Airways airliner Kotukn left tlie Taicri airport at B.la a.m. yesterday for Christchurch. Blenheim, and Palmerston North, with Mr William Arson for Palmerston North and Me«rs P. h. Black and P. O. Smellio for Christchurch. The Korimako arrived at 1 p.m. with Mr Strathmore from Blenheim, Messrs G. C. Hnrtridsc. A. W. Burbidpo. W. T. Grant, and G. V. Cross from Christchurch. General Evangeline Booth has appointed Lieutenant-colonel George W. P. Grattan chief secretary to the Salvation Army in New Zealand in succession to Colonel Orpborn. who is taking up the position of territorial commander for Scotland am Ireland. Besides serving ns a divisiona' commander in England. Lieutenant-colonel Grattan has served as assistant field secretary and ns private secretary to Mrs ITraniwell Booth and Commissioner Hurren.
