CLASH IN FIXTURES

RUGBY AND RACING (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 17. The clash between the North and South Island Rugby match and the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting on August 15 in Christchurch was discussed at a meeting of the. Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night when the Canterbury Jockey Club asked if the date of the match could he changed as the clash would have a serious effect upon the attendances at both fixtures. ~ , Mr S. S. Dean, the chairman, said he did not think that the date could he altered. but the races might be advanced in time. No one wanted conflict between tlie two fixtures. The union adopted his suggestion that the request he referred to the Canterbury Rugby Union for consideration with a view to seeing if it could meet the wishes of tins Canterbury Jockey Club, the undcrstandijig being that it would report back to the New Zealand Rugby union.
