BODY HIDDEN IN WELL
YOUNG MAN FOUND GUILTY (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, June 17(Received June 17, at 9.20 p.m.) At the Criminal Court Henry Joseph Maudlin, aged 27, was found guilty of the murder of Charles Dawson. Maudlin was sentenced to death. His chief defence was that he was mentally unstable owing to a serious car accident in 1925, when his skull was fractured.
The body of a man, identified as Charles Dawson, formerly a tram driver, was found secreted in a disused shallow well close to Lake Illawarra, on the south coast. Dawson had been shot in the temple and there was a bag over his head fastened around the neck with rope.
