A RUNAWAY VICTORY UNIVERSITY A BEATS UNIVERSITY B The postponed match between University A and University B was played at the University Oval yesterday afternoon and resulted in an easy victory for the former team by 44 points to 8 points,, The teams were as follows: — University A (light blue). —Backs — Jolly, Watt, M'Carthy, Maskell, Townsend, Gillies, Watson; forwards —Green, Laney, Harrison, J. and G. Anderson, Borrie, Pickard and Wilson. University B (dark blue). —Backs — Symes, Steele, Smith, Dunne, Berghan, Park, Emanuel; forwards—-Turner, Wall, Ferguson, Chapman, M'Farlane, Strang, Eaton, Collins. The forwards were fairly evenly matched in the first spell, but the Dark Blue vanguard faded in the second. The Light Blue backs were too fast for the opposition, and they indulged in some good passing, despite the heavy state of the ball and the ground. Watt opened the scoring for the Light Bines after ho had sidestepped Dunne and Symos, Jolly kicking a goal—o —0. Then Townsend scored, Jolly missing the goal kick and Watt'again (Jolly missing). Steele scored a good try after Berghan had made a nice cut in, and Symes kicked a goal. 11 —5. Gillies and Watt joined in a good bout of passing, Watt scoring his third try, Jolly again mising with the goal kick, and Symes kicked a penalty goal. Just before half time Watt scored his fourth try, Jolly kicking a poster from well out. University A 17 points, University B 8 points. In the second spell Maskell scored after a run from halfway and Jolly converted, and tries were also scored by Borrie, Watt, M'Carthy, Watt (his sixth), Pickard converting, Townsend, Pickard adding the extra points, and Green. University A .... 44 points University-B .. .. 8 points

Jolly’s place kicking was not nearly so successful as his efforts against Southern, as he had nine shots at goal and only put two over the crossbar. Mr A. Luiigley was the referee.

A surprise victory was recorded by the Central Hawke’s Bay Sub-union representatives in the annual fixture against the Napier-Hastings team, from which the Hawke’s Bay representative team is mainly drawn. The half-time score was 0-all, and the final score 17 to 14 in favour of the home players. SPECTATOR ORDERED OFF REFEREES ASSURED OP SUPPORT. (Pee United Press Association) DARGAVILLE, June 17. The sequel to the decision of the Management Committee of the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union to take no action regarding an incident where a referee ordered off a spectator for alleged objectionable language and the subsequent special meeting of the Referees’ Asociation last Friday was a deputation from the association to the union last night. After hearing the deputation the union discussed the question, and a resolution was passed assuring the association that it had the full support of the union at all times. An amendment assuring the association of the full support of the union but asking referees to use the drastic weapons at their disposal with extreme discretion was defeated.
