FRENCH LEAVE
ESCAPE FROM PRISON CAMP
NO SIGN OF FUGITIVES
(PER UNITF3 PUESS ASSOCIATION) AUCKLAND, June 15. Two prisoners escaped from the Hautii prison camp near Tokaantt at dusk. Although a widespread search was made, no trace of them bad been reported at a late hour. l'hc men are John Booth Prohl, aged 26, and Richard de Thierry, aged 23, a Maori. They left the camp about 5.30 after the men's tea had been served. Their disappearance was discovered 10 minutes later. The escape was comparatively easy, as under camp conditions surveillance is necessarily restricted. The two men had vanished into scrub country before anything in the nature of a search could be organised. Warders searched the district in cars.
